Melby family ready to open home to someone new after years of adult foster care experience

We are Jason and Michelle Melby. We live in St Cloud, Minnesota with our two dogs and a cat. We both have calm and peaceful personalities, and we prefer to keep our home environment the same. We like it to feel like a retreat from the pressures of the outside world. We hope it can be a similar place for individuals seeking a place to call home. 

We are laid back individuals who enjoy a moderately active lifestyle. We enjoy walks with our dogs, spending time on our patio, and playing ping pong. We also enjoy hobbies like listening to music, stained glass making, gardening and keeping up with current events. We are happiest when we can help others. We both believe communication is key to making relationships work, even when the conversations may be difficult.

We live in a five-bedroom, three-bathroom 1923 style home. We get a lot of natural light and there are spacious common areas. The individual we support would have their own bedroom on the second level. There are also cable TV capabilities in the bedrooms. We have a spacious backyard with a large patio and pergola which is open for everyone to enjoy.

Jason worked as supervisor at a group home, where he met Michelle who was working there as well. In 2000, we opened our own private adult foster care home, where we provided shared living space to vulnerable adults for 15 years. During this time, Michelle was also a consultant witness for attorneys on how the vulnerable adult law applies to the standard care in group homes. In 2022, Michelle was hired by Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota to work as a court appointed guardian. This position reignited our decision to move back into adult foster care, where we are excited to continue this journey and support someone in need.
