My name is Kandice Searcy, and I live in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota. I live with my adult son Julian, who is completing college and our Maltese dog Lola. I have lived in this same community since 1982, and I love it. There is a bus stop on every corner, and I am walking distance from Target, Cub and Walmart. I have had the pleasure of being a caregiver since 1991 and during this time I have learned the importance of being organized, focused, and following through to meet the needs of the individuals I have supported.
Our family loves to stay active, especially in the summer. We have many parks and bike paths around our house. Hopefully, a new person in our home will enjoy fun, family activities and we are open to trying new things, too! Both Julian and I love to cook and look forward to having someone with whom to try out new recipes. A perfect day for me would include a family breakfast and then taking the dog out for a walk o the nearby farmer’s market. In the evening, I would watch a movie and have some family time before bed.
I live in a townhome and the available bedroom is located on the upstairs level. The full bathroom is also located upstairs and is shared. The main level includes the kitchen, dining room, family room, half bathroom, and we have a small patio out back. The laundry is in the basement. My expectation is simply that everyone remains respectful of each other’s privacy, belongings, and feelings.
I currently work as a house supervisor at a group home. I have specific experience with Host Homes, because my mother has been a Host Home provider for many years. Julian and I provide substitute care for my mother’s home when needed. I can offer encouragement to help people move forward with their life goals, acting as a mentor and providing a safe environment for an individual to enjoy what life has to offer.
